Google Fonts hosts more than 1,900 families. The fifteen below are the ones that keep showing up in well-designed products because they read well at small sizes, ship many weights and have proper language support. Each links to a page with live preview, download and embed code from the Free Creative Assets font library.
Sans-serif for UI and body text
- Inter: the default UI font of the 2020s. Tall x-height, tabular numbers, variable weight. Use it when you want to disappear.
- Roboto: Android's system font. Slightly narrower than Inter, huge language coverage.
- Open Sans: friendly and neutral, excellent at 14 to 16 px for long text.
- DM Sans: geometric with low contrast, a favourite for fintech and SaaS marketing sites.
- Manrope: modern geometric with a distinctive "a" and "g"; great for headings on dark UI.
- Plus Jakarta Sans: rounded-geometric, warm, works from 12 px to hero size.
- Poppins: circular geometric, strong personality; keep it for headings and buttons.
- Montserrat: wide, confident, urban. Headlines and logos.
- Work Sans: optimised for screen at 14 to 48 px, slightly quirky.
- Nunito: rounded terminals, friendly for education, health and kids' products.
Serif for editorial and brand
- Lora: calligraphic roots, calm, ideal for articles.
- Playfair Display: high-contrast Didone for fashion, luxury and magazine headlines.
- Merriweather: sturdy slab-ish serif designed for screens; reliable body text.
Monospace for code and tech brands
- JetBrains Mono: ligatures, tall letters, easy on the eyes in editors.
- Fira Code: the classic ligature mono, also a strong display face for developer tools.
